04/28/2008 The Win For Life game is hot in Virginia.
One ticket in the Saturday, April 26, Win For Life drawing matched the six winning numbers to win $1,000 per week for the life of the winner. Whoever has that ticket received it in the Virginia Lottery’s Free Ticket Friday promotion, in which players get a free Win For Life ticket for each ticket they purchase on that Friday, up to 10 tickets per transaction. The winner got the ticket at Farm Fresh, located at 1620 Cedar Road in Chesapeake. It is the fourth top-prize Win For Life ticket won in Virginia in 2008 - and the second in Chesapeake. The winning numbers were 11-14-22-23-24-25 and the Free Ball was 41. Virginia Lottery officials are waiting for the winner to come forward and claim his or her prize. In addition, the store that sold the winning ticket receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery. The third and final Free Ticket Friday will be May 2, 2008 at all Virginia Lottery retailers as well as at the Virginia Lottery tent
Giles County Man Wins $100,000 In Kings And Queens Game Don’t tell Edwin Lafon of Pembroke that if you win the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Kings and Queens Scratcher game, you have to act like a king. My knees were quivering, he later told Lottery officials. I thought, ‘I’m looking at this wrong.’
Mr. Lafon won $100,000 with a ticket he purchased at Little Giant in Pembroke. Kings and Queens is one of the newest games from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $10 all the way up to $100,000. Mr. Lafon is the second player to win the top prize, which means there are still two Kings and Queens tickets out there that will win the top prize. Mr. Lafon, who works as a quality inspector, said the prize will help with retirement, which is just a few years away.
The Virginia Lottery mystery has been solved. The question Where is that winning ticket? has finally been answered. For four months, Sushil Thapa of Winchester was in possession of a top-prize ticket in the Virginia Lottery’s Win For Life game and he didn’t know it!
We knew that someone in Winchester had hit, he told Virginia Lottery officials. We searched frantically, but didn’t find it, so we gave up. All the time, the winning ticket was tucked in a book belonging to his wife. The lotto ticket matched the first six numbers in the November 24, 2007, lottery drawing. Those winning numbers were 4-10-11-13-31-41. He will receive $1,000 per week for the rest of his life.
When I found the VA lotto ticket, I was speechless, he said. I jumped in the air. I have no words to describe my excitement. He bought that winning lotto ticket at Gas Mart, located at 2118 North Frederick Pike in Winchester. The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling a top-prize Win For Life ticket. On March 28, he received the first of a lifetime of checks from Virginia Lottery Deputy Executive Director Richard Williams. The presentation took place at the Virginia Lottery’s Shenandoah Valley Customer Service Center in Harrisonburg. Mr. Thapa becomes the 19th Virginia Lottery player to win the top prize in Win For Life since the game began in February, 2006.
Kevin Branch of Chesterfield was joking when he said, I’ll be going down to the Lottery soon. He didn’t really think he would have the chance to redeem a ticket for $250,000. But just a few days after making that joke, he was on his way to the Lottery with a winning ticket. Mr. Branch matched the first five numbers in the February 22, 2008, Mega Millions drawing. His ticket only missed the Mega Ball number. He bought the winning ticket at E / C VA, located at 9430 Ironbridge Road in Chesterfield. He selected the numbers on his ticket using family birthdays. The winning numbers for that drawing were 7-12-13-19-22 and the Mega Ball was 10.
If he had matched that final number, Mr. Branch would have won a part of the $275 million jackpot. Nevertheless, he was one of three Virginians to win the $250,000 prize in the February 22 drawing. The other two were in Rustburg and Winchester. Mr. Branch told Lottery officials he plans to invest his winnings.

This time Mr. Cutlip matched all five numbers in the Cash 5 day drawing to win $50,000. It is just the latest in a remarkable string of big wins. The numbers were selected because they match their grandchildren’s birthdays. Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of matching all five numbers are 1 in 278,256.
When Eric Johnson of Roanoke realized his Cash 5 ticket had won $100,000, he didn’t say anything, but he must have had a difficult time hiding it. A friend came up to him and asked, What’s wrong with you? It’s just a crazy day, he replied.
That was an understatement. Mr. Johnson’s ticket matched all five numbers in the February 6, 2008, Cash 5 night drawing to win the top prize. February 1, 2008 I never play one play. I always play multiple times with the same numbers. That strategy worked for Thomas Zoby of Virginia Beach. He bought six tickets for the January 8, 2008, Virginia Lottery Cash 5 night drawing, all with the same five numbers – and they all won! But there was one problem. When he looked up the winning numbers on the Virginia Lottery’s Web site www.valottery.com, he read them wrong and he thought he had not won. So the tickets just sat next to his computer until he happened to go back to the store where he purchased them, Indian Lakes Food Mart at 1196 Indian Lakes Blvd. in Virginia Beach.
The clerk said, ‘I think you’re the winner,’ Mr. Zoby recalled. So I went home and checked it again. It’s a good thing he did. The six winning combinations were worth a cool $600,000. Those winning numbers were 1-4-13-14-26. Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.

She used the Easy Pick function and allowed the computer to randomly select her five numbers. Cash 5 drawings are held daily The odds of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256. Mr. Ghosh won by matching the first five numbers and missing only the Mega Ball number. His ticket was the only one in Virginia to win $250,000, and one of just five nationwide.
He purchased the ticket at Shoppers Food, located at 6360 Seven Corners Center in Falls Church. He used the Easy Pick function, in which the computer randomly selects six numbers. Mr. Ghosh told Virginia Lottery officials he plans to invest his winnings.
$300,000 For Richmond Woman Three Winning Tickets In The Same Drawing January 16, 2008 Victoria O’Connell of Richmond makes it a habit to purchase three tickets in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game, each with five identical numbers, for one drawing. That’s what she did for the December 30, 2007, Cash 5 day drawing, and they won! She won the top prize of $100,000 three times, for a total of $300,000! Those winning numbers were 3-5-6-7-8. You think to yourself, Those numbers sound very familiar. That’s when you discover your Mega Millions ticket matched the first five of those numbers to win $250,000. That is exactly what happened to Ron Clark of Richmond. His ticket won the second-highest prize in the December 14, 2007 Mega Millions drawing. I got very excited, he told Lottery officials when he claimed his prize. I called my wife and she didn’t believe me.
The winning numbers were 4-7-12-17-30 and the Mega Ball number was 44. His ticket was the only one in Virginia to win $250,000. When Don Fisher of Colonial Beach realized he had a Mega Millions ticket in his possession that was worth $250,000, he had a bit of a problem. The systems engineer was working on a job that prevented him from being able to redeem the ticket for several days. I thought, ‘What do I do with this ticket for the rest of the week he later told Virginia Lottery officials.
His ticket won Mega Millions’ second largest prize in the November 23, 2007 drawing by matching the first five numbers and missing only the Mega Ball number. The winning numbers were 18-21-33-42-56 and the Mega Ball number was 11. He purchased the ticket at Stop In Food Store, located at 2930 Kings Highway in Colonial Beach.
