After I found out it was true, I gave thanks to the good Lord, over and over again for His blessings. Tolbert said the trust will tithe to the church and then share the winnings with family. THREE TEXAS LOTTERY PLAYERS FROM EAST TEXAS WIN COMBINED TOTAL OF $140,000 THIS WEEK Three East Texas players of Texas Lottery scratch games came away winners this week, taking home a combined total of $140,000. The three collected their prizes of $100,000, $20,000 and $20,000 on Thursday at the Lottery Claim Center in Tyler. The first of these, Julie McClendon of Palestine, collected her prize this morning. She told Lottery officials she had made up her mind to purchase a Texas Lottery ticket, but she wasn’t sure which one. After doing some serious homework, she made a choice that would bring her $100,000. The night before I was going to buy a ticket, I researched (on the Texas Lottery Commission Web site) the remaining large-prize amounts, McClendon said. I wanted to see how many large prizes were left on the $5 and $10 tickets that I normally purchase.
Her research took her to the pages that exclusively feature the $5 and $10 tickets on www.txlottery.org. After some deliberation, she decided she would buy one 10 Times Lucky. It turns out that she made a wise choice, as her ticket had a top prize of $100,000. I’m still in shock that I actually won, she said. McClendon purchased the ticket at the Redland Grocery, 5340 Highway 59 North in Lufkin.
Two additional players each won prizes of $20,000 and took home their prizes today. Richard Phillips of Nacogdoches won $20,000 playing Millions and Millions, a $30 ticket that he bought at the Ken’s Minit Mart, 911 West Main in Nacogdoches. He showed the ticket to his friends, who told him he was holding a big winner. At first, I thought my friends were playing a trick on me, telling me I’d scratched the numbers for a prize of $20,000, Phillips said. When I knew it was real, I was so excited. Jacqueline Davis in Longview was overcome by that same kind of excitement after she purchased a Spicy 7’s ticket at Mr. Kwik #1, 2000 S. High Street. I went to Mr. Kwik to cash in the tickets on which I’d won $10, Davis said. I used my prize to buy two Spicy 7’s and scratched the tickets in my car. I ran back in the store and got the clerk as excited as I was.
After returning from a trip to Shreveport, David B. Selle of Granbury stopped to get some Texas Mega Millions tickets. As he waited, he noticed the Millions and Millions scratch-off was nearing the end of the pack and decided to take a chance on the $30 ticket. Selle always checks the back of the ticket for the minimum prize amounts before he starts scratching. He revealed the numbers one at a time, expecting to win $40. Instead, he uncovered the first of four $3 million prizes offered in the instant ticket game. I called my sister. Then I called my boss and asked for a day off, said Selle. I knew I wouldn’t get much sleep last night. On the advice of a friend, he came to Austin right away to claim his prize. Mr. Selle obviously enjoys traveling, and we hope his win will help him enjoy his upcoming trip, said Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director. Although his boss worried his big win might have him traveling indefinitely, Selle isn’t so sure. After 27 years at the same job, he says, It’s hard to walk away.
Besides, he’s won before. Selle has claimed scratch-off prizes of as much as $1,000 and even matched four of the five Cash 5 numbers a couple of times. Gunny’s Lakeside Grocery at 2316 Lipan Highway in Granbury may also benefit from Selle’s luck. The retailer is eligible for a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $179 million. Saturday’s Lotto Texas jackpot is worth an estimated $25 million. Houston, TX., Some people were enjoying candy hearts and flowers yesterday, but Mega Millions player Shehu Zibili of Houston received something a bit more substantial from the Texas Lottery, a $1 million prize. He matched all of the numbers for the January 29 drawing except the Mega Ball (8 23 39 40 42, Mega Ball: 24). While that would normally qualify him for a $250,000 prize, his decision to Megaply boosted his winnings by four times that amount. Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director explained, Texas Lottery players have a unique opportunity to increase their non-jackpot winnings by two, three or four times with the Megaplier add-n feature.
He purchased his lucky ticket at the Lakeside Shell, 2706 W. Sam Houston Parkway in Houston. Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $179 million. Saturday’s Lotto Texas jackpot is worth an estimated $25 million. For more information about the Texas Lottery, please visit the official Web site
AUSTIN,Texas: James C Smith Jr of Kyle scored a $1 million win playing Mega Millions using the jersey numbers of Dallas Cowboys football legends Roger Staubach (12), Bob Hayes (22), Duane Thomas (33), Cliff Harris (43) and Robert Newhouse (44). The drawing occurred January 18. I chose Troy’s number, eight, for the Mega Ball, but the number 15 was drawn, so I didn’t score really big on this win, The reasons our players choose their numbers are as varied as the players themselves, as Mr. Smith has shown us, said Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director. This was a new one. In all the years of hearing about how players selected the numbers they played, I don’t believe the choice of jersey numbers of legendary football players has ever been cited. Smith says he and his family will use the money for a family trip and to plan for retirement. I kept the ticket at home, in a safe in the closet, Smith says. And in case you’re wondering, no, the safe wasn’t shaped like a football.
He purchased his ticket with the Megaplier feature at the Wimberley Shamrock, 14410 Ranch Road 12 North West in Wimberley. By megaplying his ticket for an additional dollar, Smith turned his $250K prize into $1 million. Tonight’s Texas Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $150 million. Tomorrow’s Lotto Texas jackpot is worth $23 million.
AUSTIN,Texas: Volney L. Pinder has spent many of his 89 years having a good time, irrespective of the circumstances. Now that he’s won $1 million playing Mega Millions, he’s really ready to have a good time at the surprise party he says his family is giving him next month for his 90th birthday. Besides a birthday party, Pinder and his wife, Florence, will take a cruise to Alaska, courtesy of their family. I’ve been to every state in the Union, except Alaska, he said. Now I can say I’ve been to all of them. Pinder served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, now the Air Force, during World War II, flying Lockheed P-38 Lightning airplanes.
AUSTIN, Tx., Others may have enjoyed events on December 31, but it was only after the New Year’s Eve revelry quieted that John Jones of Fort Worth really began celebrating. On January 1, his numbers (13 16 25 30 54 and Mega Ball 11) came up for the Mega Millions drawing with an advertised jackpot of $33 million. According to Jones, It’s been an unbelievable experience. He purchased his Quick Pick numbers at the C-Store Sub Express located at 3201 N. Beach St. in Fort Worth. Because he chose the Cash Value Option, he will receive a single payment of $20,024,272, before taxes. The retailer is also eligible to receive a bonus of $330,000 for selling the winning ticket. The C-Store Sub Express hasn’t seen the last of Jones, though. He says he’ll keep playing the game that paid off so well. There is another drawing on Friday, he said. We’ll probably get tickets on the way home. As Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director points out, there are two winners in this story.
