Grand Island, NE: 5 guys hit a $200,000 Nebraska Powerball pot

Lottery Group Splits $200,000 Nebraska Powerball Prize A group of five men from central Nebraska will share a $200,000 Nebraska Powerball prize. Every week for over seven years, David Thuernagle of Grand Island has purchased tickets for a group of five Powerball players. The other members of the group are Jerry Czarnick of Grand Island; Larry Salter of Grand Island; Bill Schleicher of Dannebrog; and Michael Sok of St. Paul.

For the Saturday, April 12 drawing, Thuernagle purchased a five-play quick pick multi-draw ticket at Skagway, 1607 South Locust Street in Grand Island. One play on the ticket contained all five of the winning white ball numbers (11, 29, 48, 52, 55) from the April 12 draw for a $200,000 prize. Thirty-three Nebraska Lottery players have won the $200,000 Powerball prize to date. Members of the lottery group met at Nebraska Lottery headquarters on Thursday to claim their winnings. Each player will receive a $40,000. The group learned of their win after Thuernagle checked the winning Powerball numbers in the Grand Island Independent newspaper. The group members had no definite plans for their winnings, but some stated that they might use their $40K for investments.

Unclaimed Nebraska Lotto Prizes

In addition to reporting unclaimed Scratch prizes, the Nebraska Lottery will periodically post a list of unclaimed Lotto prizes. Lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing for which the ticket was issued. The following information lists the retailer, city, game, drawing date and prize amount of Lotto prizes yet to be claimed.

Omaha, NE Woman Lotto winner $20,000 2by2 Prize

February 8, 2008 Linda Ortiz of Omaha,NE., recently won $20,000 playing 2by2 from the Nebraska Lottery. There were more than 17,000 Nebraska Lottery Lotto winners in the Saturday, February 2, drawings. Among these winners was Ortiz, who purchased a 2by2 ticket good for multiple draws at Tobacco / Phones 4 Less, 2014 L St in Omaha. The ticket contained the winning white ball numbers (1, 19) and red ball numbers (7, 12) from the February 2 drawing for the $20,000 top prize.

One hundred and thirty-nine Nebraska Lottery players have won the 2by2 top prize to date. While claiming her prize, Ortiz told Nebraska Lottery officials that her reaction to learning she had won $20,000 was wow! She learned of her win after visiting the Nebraska Lottery web site. Ortiz plans to pay bills with her winnings. 2by2 is run by the Multi-State Lottery Association and was introduced in June 2002. Players in Nebraska have the opportunity to win up to $20,000 Monday through Saturday by playing 2by2. The odds of winning the $20,000 2by2 top prize are 1 in 105,625, while the overall odds are 1 in 3.59.

01/04/08 $302 Million Raised For Nebraska Lottery Beneficiaries

January 4, 2008 The Nebraska Lottery recently distributed among its beneficiary funds $6,345,022, derived from a share of Scratch and Lotto ticket sales for the previous three months. A total of $302,475,265 has been distributed in quarterly transfers since the Nebraska Lottery began operation on September 11, 1993. The latest transfer, made the week of December 28, 2007, was distributed among beneficiaries in the following manner:

Education Innovation Fund, $1,253,142;
Nebraska Scholarship Fund, $1,570,393;
Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund, $2,823,535;
Nebraska State Fair Support and Improvement Fund, $634,502; and
Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund, $63,450.

Amendment 4 passed by Nebraska voters in November of 2004 established the following distribution formula: Education as directed by the Legislature (44.5 percent) - currently divided among the Education Innovation Fund and Nebraska Scholarship Fund; Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund (44.5 percent); Nebraska State Fair (10 percent); and the Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund (1 percent, plus the first $500,000 in fund proceeds each fiscal year). The funds' respective totals to date are: Criteria for proceeds distribution are established by the beneficiary funds in accordance with legislative mandates. Every county in Nebraska has received service through grants funded with Nebraska Lottery proceeds. The Nebraska Lottery marked $1 billion in total sales (since 1993) in March of 2006.

11/05/07 Lincoln Man Wins $1,000 Playing $50,000 Blackjack

October 16, 2007 Phillip Ligenza of Lincoln won $1,000 playing the $5 Scratch game $50,000 Blackjack from the Nebraska Lottery.

Ligenza purchased his winning $50,000 Blackjack ticket at On the Go, 5240 S 48th St in Lincoln. The ticket contained one hand with a combined total higher than the dealer’s hand for the corresponding $1,000 prize. There are three $1,000 prizes available in the game. Ligenza is the second person to claim a $1,000 prize to date.

While claiming his prize, Ligenza told Nebraska Lottery officials that he “couldn’t believe” that he had won $1,000. He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and purchase a new screen for his laptop computer.

$50,000 Blackjack is a $5 Scratch game from the Nebraska Lottery that offers players the chance to win $816,000 in cash prizes from $5 to $50,000. The odds of winning $1,000 playing $50,000 Blackjack are 1 in 80,000 while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.60.

$10,000 Powerball Winner Saturday

January 7, 2007--The ranks of Nebraska Lottery Lotto winners continue to grow. There were more than 21,000 Nebraska Lottery Lotto winners in the Saturday, January 6, drawings. Among the winners was a $10,000 Powerball prize. The winning ticket was sold at Kwik Shop #681, 4440 O Street, Lincoln.

There are nine ways to win with Nebraska Powerball; prizes range from $3 to the multi-million dollar jackpot.

Nebraska Powerball drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Powerball is played by selecting five white ball numbers between 1 and 55, and one red Powerball between 1 and 42.

The overall odds of winning something playing Nebraska Lottery Powerball are 1 in 36.61.

Total sales of Nebraska Powerball in Nebraska Lottery have surpassed $365 million. Those sales translate into more than $91 million for education, the environment, the Nebraska State Fair and compulsive gamblers assistance.
