Terry Jenkins of Ennis has claimed a $10,000 Montana Powerball lotto prize on behalf of a lottery pool from Rio Tinto, a mining company, in Three Forks. Jenkins bought the winning ticket at Rocky Mountain Supply in Ennis for the April 26 drawing. Jenkins and three co-workers at Rio Tinto won $10,000 from Powerball. Jenkins joked, We were so close, yet so far away. When the Powerball jackpot reaches $200 Million, 19 additional co-workers join the pool. The pool only plays the Montana Powerball, and has been playing for 15 years. We never miss a draw. We always play the same numbers for every draw, Jenkins said. The Rio Tinto pool previously won a $5,000 Montana Powerball lotto prize. Jenkins said, We put our winnings back in the pool and kept playing. We’ll play ‘til we hit the jackpot!” Each of the four winners has a different plan for his prize.
Eureka,Montana: Brad Miller of Eureka has claimed a $200,000 Powerball prize from the Saturday night drawing. Miller bought his winning ticket at Ksanka Store in Eureka. Brad and his wife Trinia Holder drove to Helena last night, after finding out their ticket was worth $200,000. Actually, we still didn’t believe it until it was checked at the Montana Powerball Lottery, said Trinia. We kept looking at it, and checking the numbers. It’s pretty unreal.
Brad and Trinia both grew up in Eureka, and moved back two years ago. Brad said his boss is retiring, so he is in the process of starting his own business, Miller Drywall and Construction. Trinia works at Ksanka’s. I think everyone in Eureka knows we won, said Brad. We’re going to use this money wisely. It will certainly help us. Usually Brad and Trinia play Scratch games, but will buy a Montana Powerball ticket or two when the jackpot is larger than usual. For Wednesday, players will be playing for $173 million, which is the first time the jackpot has been over $170 million
Sam McAndrew of Gallatin Gateway has claimed a $30,000 Montana Powerball with Power Play prize from the March 5 drawing. McAndrew bought her ticket at Gateway Market in Gallatin Gateway. McAndrew has been buying $5 Powerball tickets with Power Play since the jackpot reached over $100 Million. Power Play is an option players can choose for an addition $1 per play. It multiples any prize you win, except the jackpot, up to five times. Last night’s Power Play number was three, making Sam’s $10,000 prize a $30,000 prize. McAndrew is the mother of four sons and has lived in Gallatin Gateway for 16 years. She works at the Boyne Resorts in Big Sky. Sam was in Ennis with one of her sons when her husband called to tell her there was a winner from Gallatin Gateway. Sam said she went and checked her tickets, and found out hers was the lucky ticket. Sam and her family plan to use the money to upgrade vehicles, although they’re also thinking of going to the Gallatin Gateway Inn for dinner tonight.
So far today, two lucky Montana Lottery winners have claimed prizes from recent Lotto drawings. This morning, Terry Jensen of Belgrade arrived with his winning Montana Cash lotto ticket from the January 30 drawing. Jensen bought his ticket at Van’s County Market in Bozeman, Montana. His prize was $50,000.
Jensen is a regular Montana Powerball player, playing a set of his own numbers in Powerball, and then playing Quick Picks in Montana Cash. He is a native of the Gallatin Valley, and is an electrician for Current Electric. His plans include paying bills, maybe taking a vacation, and buying a new house for some property he has in Belgrade. Then, Sonia Silvan of Big Sandy brought her winning Montana Powerball with Power Play ticket to the Lottery. Sonia bought her ticket, also a Quick Pick, at Price Rite in Fort Benton, Montana. Her Montana lotto Powerball ticket matched four white balls plus the Powerball on the January 26 drawing. She wisely added Power Play to her ticket, which multiplied her $10,000 times 2, for $20,000. Sonia works for the Chouteau County and Big Sandy Conservation Districts. She heard Monday morning that a ticket bought in Fort Benton,MT., was worth $20,000, so she took her tickets to a nearby store. After she looked at the winning numbers and her Powerball ticket, she knew she had the one. She went back to work, called her husband, Wayne, daughters, Amy and Jenny, and sister, Penny Wilson. No one answered, so she retried Penny. Penny, who lives in Norris, was sleeping in, and answered the phone, What do you want?! Sonia whispered, I won the Lottery. Penny said that woke her up, so she asked her how much. Sonia was still whispering: $20,000. So Penny asked her why she was whispering and Sonia explained that she was at work and wanted her family to know first. Daughter Amy also asked her Mom why she was whispering when they finally talked later on Monday. Sonia said she’s not sure what she’s doing with her winnings, but sister Penny said she was buying lunch today.
Gary and B. J. Klipstein of Billings have claimed the Million Dollar Prize in the Lottery’s Montana Millionaire game. The Klipsteins presented their ticket, numbered 136916, at Montana Lottery Headquarters this afternoon. Gary is an avid Lottery player, but always expected the game he’d win would be Montana Cash. I kept telling B.J. we were going to win, said Gary. Wife B. J. said she’s a pessimist, and wasn’t quite as confident as her husband. It still seems surreal, she said. Gary bought his winning ticket on Saturday, December 29, at 24th Street Cenex in Billings. He buys his regular Lottery tickets at 24th Street Cenex.
Gary is a charge nurse at the Billings Clinic, and has been there nearly 30 years. B. J. is a homemaker, and they are parents of two. Gary went home for lunch on Monday, December 31, and while he was home, decided he should check the Lottery’s website to see what the Montana Powerball winning numbers were from that morning’s Grand Prize Drawing. He immediately saw that the Million Dollar ticket was sold at 24th Street Cenex. Hey, this might be something, he said. Then he looked at the number and realized it was his number. I hollered at B. J., and told her we won, said Gary. You’re crazy, B. J. replied. B. J. said she had to keep looking at the ticket and the winning numbers to make sure it was real. The Klipsteins will be cautious with their winnings. Gary, who is 69, intends to work at least another two years, although he admits retirement is looking pretty good. They plan on investing their money, and working with financial advisors so they can retire comfortably. The one splurge they are thinking about is a trip to Hawaii. I’ve wanted to go there, said B. J. Now it seems possible.
Wendy and Darrell Allen of Livingston have claimed a $200,000 Powerball prize from the November 24 drawing. The Allens bought their winning ticket at T J’s Gas / Convenience in Livingston. Coincidentally, T J’s recently sold another $200,000 Powerball ticket. On the February 10 drawing, Gary Zimmerman of Livingston also matched the first five balls, but not the Powerball, to claim a second-tier prize in Powerball. Neither Zimmerman nor Allen chose to add the Power Play option, which, in Zimmerman’s case, would have increased his winnings to $600,000. For the Allens, the November 24 Power Play number was Five, so their take would have been $1,000,000. That’s OK, said Wendy. I’m happy with $200,000. According to Wendy, the numbers they play are a combination of dates and ages. She said she was quite surprised to go onto the Lottery’s website on the 24th. I saw my first number. Then the second. By the time I saw the third number, I was getting pretty excited.
Darrell and Wendy were planning some remodeling on their home, and are quite pleased they won’t have to take out a loan for this project. Besides getting the house fixed up, they plan on paying off school loans, and setting money aside for their 7-year-old’s college expenses. No new vehicles for us, said Darrell. Although if we would have won the Million Dollars, maybe we’d buy a new car. The Allens are holding out hope that their Montana Millionaire tickets will end up being worth a new car for them. I might go buy one more ticket before the December 31 drawing, said Wendy.
