84-YEAR-OLD PALM SPRINGS MOM CLAIMS $40 MILLION FLORIDA LOTTO™ JACKPOT

TALLAHASSEE-- The Florida Lottery announced today FLORIDA LOTTO™ winner Maria Cruz, 84, of Palm Springs, claimed the Aug. 5 estimated $40 million FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot.

Cruz chose the one-time lump sum payment option for her winnings in the amount of $21,355,093.34. She purchased her winning FLORIDA LOTTO ticket at Food R Us, 1975 S. Congress Avenue, West Palm Beach, which will receive a bonus incentive of $45,000 for selling the top prize winning ticket. The check will be presented at the store on Friday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m. The winning numbers were:

13 - 15 - 18 - 22 - 29 - 44

According to Cruz, her daughter Anneria Francisco had a dream that she won $15 million playing the FLORIDA LOTTO. Francisco told Cruz about the dream and asked her to play the numbers 13, 15, and 18. Cruz sent her son to the store to play the numbers. He played 13, 15, and 18 and used the Florida Lottery¿s Quick Pick system to choose the other three numbers. The next day, Cruz sent her son back to the store to get a printout of the winning numbers. When he got back from the store, he gave his mother the printout. That is when Cruz discovered she had the winning ticket.

"I was happy and shocked," Cruz said. "Other players should keep playing so they can have the same luck too."

Cruz, who was accompanied to Florida Lottery Headquarters by seven of her eight children, says she doesn't have any big plans for the money right now except making sure her kids get what they want.

As for Francisco, who is still in disbelief, this is a dream come true.

"This is my dream," Francisco said. "I still don't believe it. I hope this will bring our family closer."

Total ticket sales for this jackpot generated approximately $25.9 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF). Since 1988, the Florida Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to the EETF, benefiting our students and schools, as well as funding more than 262,000 Bright Futures scholarships. By a two-to-one margin, Florida voters in 1986 approved a constitutional amendment authorizing the state to operate a Lottery for the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education.

Cruz is the 73rd FLORIDA LOTTO winner to purchase a winning ticket in Palm Beach County. She is the 853rd FLORIDA LOTTO winner since 1988.

The next FLORIDA LOTTO drawing will be held tonight, at 11 p.m. ET with an estimated $3 million jackpot.

When you play, we all win. "$15 Billion for Florida's Schools"
