$120K Idaho Looto winner in Sandpoint, Idaho

4/16/2008 Northern Idaho Woman Wins $120,000 on Ticket Sold in Sandpoint

Boise,Idaho: Whoever said the holiday season doesn’t last all year has never met Jeanne Bjergo, of Bayview! Bjergo won $120,000 on a 12 Days of Winning Holiday scratch ticket from the Idaho Lottery when she purchased her ticket from the Exxon Express located at 210 E Superior in Sandpoint, Idaho. My husband and I always buy Holiday scratch tickets at Christmas time. I hadn’t won on 12 Days of Winning, and I knew there were some winners left, so I bought one,” explained Bjergo on her rationale for purchasing the game three months after the holiday season ended. Bjergo, along with her husband, who own the Bayview Mercantile store in the small resort community of Bayview, count this as the best belated holiday present ever. They plan on investing their money into making their business more successful.

We would like to become Idaho Lottery retailers at some point, confessed Bjergo who moved with her husband to northern Idaho four years ago. So what was it like becoming the second six-figure winner in northern Idaho just six weeks after Alice Massey of Rathdrum celebrated a $600,000 Powerball win? I had a lot of heart palpitations when the clerk checked the ticket and told me I needed to go to Boise to collect my winnings, described Bjergo.

Idaho Lottery Asks Players to Play Responsibly with Huge Jackpot

3/14/2008 David Workman Idaho Lottery Asks Players to Play Responsibly with Huge Jackpot for Saturday Night. Boise,ID There are 275 million reasons for players to stop and pick up a Idaho Powerball lotto ticket for this Saturday’s draw. And as Idaho Lottery retailers gear up to handle increased traffic in their stores, the Idaho Lottery is encouraging all its players to play responsibly this weekend when buying their Powerball tickets.

There has been a lot of enthusiasm surrounding this weekend’s draw, explained Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. We are encouraging players to share in the excitement of winning big, but to play responsibly. Some players may be tempted to spend more than they can afford. That’s not a good bet. This Saturday’s Powerball jackpot ranks as the 7th largest in Powerball history. During this run, there have been 120, $200,000 or higher winners nationwide. Idaho has been fortunate enough to land 8 of those winning tickets since the middle of January including a $200,000 winner in Emmett and $600,000 winner from Nampa last week. On strength of the recent big winners’ success, some Idaho lotto retailers are doing a booming business for Powerball sales as the weekend draws near. Maverik Store #273 on Karcher Road in Nampa, the location where Pam Schoppe won $200,000 on February 26 and fortune cookie winners John Garcia and Eddie Dietrich won their $600,000 last week, has actually surpassed the legendary Jacksons Store #10 on Orchard at 1-84 where Brad Duke and Pam Hiatt won their jackpots for the hottest place to buy Lottery tickets in the Treasure Valley. Most stores in the Treasure Valley are seeing increased foot traffic, including many Lottery retail locations in Meridian as players flock to purchase their Powerball tickets and try some of the more popular scratch games like American Idol and Blue Line Bonus Cashword.

We’re expecting things to get a little crazy on Saturday with people wanting their Idaho Powerball tickets, described Steve Eddy, owner of Fast Eddy’s located at 770 W Ustick in Meridian as his store gears up for the weekend. Eddy’s clerks post jackpot alert signs in the stores and wear jackpot alert stickers on their shirts. It all adds to the excitement of the big jackpot. Go ahead and dream about winning the jackpot. But remember the odds of winning the grand prize are always a long shot, so play, but play responsibly, that’s the best bet, added Anderson. Spend what you can afford.

Idaho Powerball Lotto winner from a fortune cookie?

Fortune Cookie Foretells $600,000 Idaho Powerball Winner, Nampa Store Sells Second Six-Figure Idaho Powerball Winner in a Week

Boise,Idaho: What are the odds a fortune cookie will foretell you getting a large sum of money and be true? What are the odds of the exact same store selling a $200,000 winning Idaho Powerball ticket one week and a $600,000 winner the next? And what are the odds of both being true together?

In the case of John Garcia, Eddie Dietrich, and Maverik Store #273 at 2516 W. Karcher Road in Nampa, all of the above is true and it happened late last week. Garcia and Dietrich claimed last Wednesday’s $600,000 winning Powerball ticket they bought at the exact same store that Pam Schoppe bought her winning $200,000 ticket for the February 26, 2008 draw – the week before. Long-time Idaho residents Garcia and Dietrich ordered Chinese food a few days before last Wednesday’s Idaho Powerball draw. The fortune cookie was still in Garcia’s wallet when they claimed their winnings and it said, You will inherit a large sum of money. On Wednesday, Dietrich knew he wanted a Idaho Powerball ticket and just happened to pull into the Maverikon Karcher Road unaware of Schoppe’s good fortune the week before.

That kind of thing is just completely random, but I’m glad the fortune cookie was right, said a happy Garcia as they became the eleventh $200,000 or higher Idaho Powerball winner in Idaho since October 2007. Their winning ticket matched all five numbers of last Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, but not the Powerball itself. It also had the PowerPlay multiplier which players can select for an extra $1 per play. The PowerPlay, chosen at the time of the draw, multiplies all non-jackpot winning tickets by the number chosen for the draw, in this case it was 3, turning the $200,000 winner into a $600,000 winning ticket. Garica and Dietrich have no immediate plans for their winnings other than taking care of some debt. After taxes they will take home $403,200. For their part in selling the two winning six-figure tickets, Maverik will earn a bonus of $70,000 from the Lottery.

Emmett,Idaho: County Treasurer Wins $200,000 Playing Powerball lottery

Connie Goins received a phone call from her daughter recently telling her to check her Powerball tickets from the night before because there was a $200,000 winner in Emmett. Goins quickly pulled up the Idaho Lottery's website to check the numbers. I'm afraid someone else is going to win it, she said to her daughter. Goins regularly plays her own numbers, birthdays and anniversary dates for her family. As the two talked on the phone, Goins checked her numbers again. That's when it started to sink in she had a big winning ticket. Now wait a minute, that's a birthday, that's a birthday, and that's a birthday, and so is that one, she told her daughter excitedly. Next thing I knew, I had all five! Goins, the Gem County Treasurer was holding the winning $200,000 Powerball ticket from the Wednesday, March 5th draw that was sold at the Stinker Store in Emmett. It's just something else, she exclaimed.

According to Goins, she plays the numbers that her late husband always played: birthdays of their children and their anniversary. I was never much of a lottery player until Geno passed away. I found his playslips and have been using them ever since, she described. He always told me we were going to hit it. And Geno was right. The icon of Emmett and owner of Geno's barber shop passed away suddenly last September, pre-maturely ending a 35-year romance and marriage with his wife. His daughter, Niccole Welch, took over the business and now operates Studio 59 (named for the age of her father when he died) had to drive her mother in to Boise to collect their winnings. She was too nervous and excited to drive, confessed a happy Welch. Her plans for the winnings are what one might expect from an elected County Treasurer . I'm going to save it and invest for my retirement, she said before adding as an after-thought, I might paint my house and add a little color. Maybe even a Powerball on the wall. Geno always said, you can't win if you don't play, explained Goins on her philosophy. I just have a feeling in my heart that he was looking out for me and making life a little easier for us. The spirit of Geno Goins lives on.

02/10/08 $200,000 Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Idaho

$200,000 Winning Idaho Powerball Ticket Sold in Idaho Boise, ID. Calendar year 2008 is beginning the way 2007 ended for the Idaho Lottery with another $200,000 winner on Powerball. One lucky ticket, sold in Oneida County in Malad City matched all five numbers, but not the Powerball in last night’s $97 million draw. The winning numbers were 9, 18, 19, 38, 47 and the Powerball was 11. Malad City is in southeastern Idaho near the Idaho Utah border. As always, we are asking our players to check their tickets carefully, encouraged Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. Too frequently, a player will not match the Powerball and think they do not have a winning ticket. In this case, the winner matched all five numbers but not the Powerball and is holding a ticket worth $200,000.

This is the 6th major winning Idaho Powerball ticket sold since Idaho in October 15, 2007. The last large Idaho Powerball ticket, a $600,000 winner sold in northern Idaho in the town of Rathdrum for the December 15, 2007 draw, has yet to be claimed. This is the second $200,000 winner in three months for southeastern Idaho. The last was claimed by Kathleen Olsen of Logan, Utah on November 15, 2007. It is also a good idea for players to sign the back of their tickets prior to presenting them for payment to ensure their proper ownership, added Jeff Anderson. The holder of the winning ticket has 180 days to claim their prize from Lottery offices in Boise.

01/08/08 WWII/Korean War Veteran Wins $1,000,000 Raffle

WWII/Korean War Veteran Claims $1,000,000 Raffle Prize Boise Veterans Day will have a new meaning for Bob Chester, a retired United States Marine, who bought his $1,000,000 winning raffle ticket very early in the morning on Veterans Day on November 11, 2007 just minutes after sales for the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle had started. At the time, Chester, who was wearing a Idaho Lottery sweatshirt his wife had won when he visited the Idaho Lottery Offices, just knew he wanted a couple of raffle tickets. I bought some tickets and then probably went fishing, laughed Chester, the 79-year-old retiree from Boise, of the night he bought his first few tickets.

Chester discovered he was the big winner right about midnight on New Year’s Eve. He had been bugging me to check the winning numbers all day, explained his wife Leta. I had been busy with work and just didn’t do it. He eventually went and checked it himself on the internet.

I woke her up and said ‘Happy New Year’, I think we have a problem’, said Chester with a wry chuckle. She didn’t believe me. I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t getting senile, joked Leta, with a big smile. Chester then sent a Happy New Year’s Day card to his family members that said they had one million reasons to watch the news. He had not disclosed yet he was the big winner.

The Lottery also presented Jacksons Food Stores at the corner of Five Mile and Fairview with a bonus check worth $50,000. This is the second big win for this Jacksons store in last 8 months. Back on April 2, 2007, Beverly Owens claimed a $200,000 winning Idaho Powerball ticket from the same store. Since announcing the winning numbers on Monday, Lottery offices have been flooded with thousands of phone calls from players wanting to check their tickets, announced Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. Players can check out idahoraffle.com or visit their retailer to verify their winning Idaho lotto tickets. In addition to the phone calls for winning numbers, the Lottery has also been asked how the winning numbers were chosen. The Idaho Lottery used their random number generator in a secured facility in Boise. In addition to Chester claiming his prize, Meridian resident Lisa Phillips, a Boise School Bus Driver and owner of a small trucking company claimed the first of the four $25,000 prizes from the Lottery this morning. I told the gals at the store to stop messin’ with me when they told me I’d won $25,000. I was so excited I grabbed some gal and hugged her! exclaimed Phillips.
