After finding out that we'd won, I called my friend and the other four members of our group right away to tell them the good news, she said. “They were all in a great state of shock that we had won. The group has been consistently playing the Delaware Lottery for about three years, and usually purchases about three to five tickets a week. We have won prizes of $100 a couple times, along with other smaller amount prizes, but this was our first big win, added the group representative. “We play different Lottery games, like MULTI-WIN LOTTO and HOT LOTTO®, but POWERBALL® is the group favorite, and this win sure hasn't changed that. Delaware Lotto Raffle wins and Hot Lotto game debut thaw J chill Dover, DE -- The Delaware Lottery helped many players cure their holiday blues this January by handing out some hefty helpings of cash. The DELAWARE RAFFLE kicked things off over New Year’s by awarding $250,000 to a Middletown man, along with five $25,000 prizes. A trio of POWERBALL players celebrated the calendar change in style by claiming combined winnings of $100,000, while a ticket worth $10,000 has yet to be claimed. The Delaware Lottery also paid several Instant Game top-prizes and introduced HOT LOTTO® to take the chill out of winter’s coldest month.
December and January were excellent months to play the Delaware Lottery, said Wayne Lemons, Delaware Lottery Director. “The DELAWARE RAFFLE rewarded players with its prize pay outs, POWERBALL® was popular as always, and lottery gamers are already flocking to the new HOT LOTTO® offering. During the month of January, POWERBALL® drawings yielded 54,508 winners. There were also 227,989 instant game winners last month. An anonymous winner who purchased just one ticket took home the RAFFLE’s quarter-million-dollar top prize (minus Federal withholding taxes), while five separate $25,000 first prizes were won by two friends from Wilmington and Rising Sun, eight New Castle county coworkers, a 42-year-old Elkton, Md., man, a Newark woman who only plays the RAFFLE, and one anonymous winner. The Delaware Lottery also introduced HOT LOTTO® in January. A Lotto-style game with guaranteed estimated annuity jackpots of at least $1 million, ticket sales for the $1 game began Jan. 28 around the First State, and the first drawing was held Jan. 30.
Dover, DE The Delaware Lottery today introduced HOT LOTTO , a new Lotto-style game with guaranteed estimated annuity jackpots of at least $1 million. While similar to Powerball and Multi-Win Lotto, HOT LOTTO players select five white ball numbers from 1 to 39 and one orange Hot Ball number from 1 to 19. A $1 Sizzler option (like the Powerball Power Play) gives gamers a chance to automatically triple lower-tier prizes. "Delaware, like many smaller states, has a demand for a Lotto game on par with the jackpots offered by larger state lotteries," said Wayne Lemons, Delaware Lottery Director. "We've heard the call for a game with larger top-prizes than Multi-Win Lotto and better odds than Powerball . HOT LOTTO fills this niche and offers players a better shot to take home estimated annuity prizes in the $1 million to $20 million range." Odds of winning the HOT LOTTO jackpot are one in nearly 11 million, while the odds of winning the top Powerball prize are one in 146 million. Drawings for the multi-state game are held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Players can purchase a multi-draw ticket for up to 10 draws at a time. Jackpots begin at an estimated annuity of $1 million and increase by at least $50,000 per drawing until a winning number is drawn. To win the jackpot, players must match all five numbers and the Hot Ball. Matching five numbers but not the Hot Ball wins $10,000 and matching four numbers and the Hot Ball wins $500. Any time a player matches the Hot Ball they win $2 with other prizes ranging between $3 and $50. Player instructions and overall odds are available at www.delottery.com. The jackpot prize can be paid out either as a 24 year, 25-payment annuity, or as a single lump sum in cash. The two biggest jackpots for HOT LOTTO were both in 2007, one worth $19.9 million in January and another worth $12.9 million in July.
