05/9/2008 Connecticut Lottery tickets can't be purchased, validated or cashed on Sunday while the Connecticut Lottery implements a major upgrade to its software system. The system will be down beginning at 10:59 p.m. Saturday immediately following the Powerball drawing through 10 a.m. on Sunday. Anne M. Noble, president and CEO of CT Lottery, said the upgrade will allow for implementing state-of-the-art gaming technology known as the "Wave," which will provide faster processing, easier reporting systems, age verification checker and ability for consumers to check their own tickets via a "Ticket Checker" validation system. Lottery game drawings will be held on Sunday as planned. Lotto results for the weekend drawings will be posted to the lottery's web site, and on the 860-713-2000.
Lightning protection company employee experiences a hit of his own The odds of being hit by lightning are 576,000 to one, while the chance to win the CT Lottery’s Classic Lotto jackpot are more than 12 times greater, at 7.1 million to 1. Yet, for Torrington resident Jim Seitz, who is employed in the lightning protection industry, winning the March 18 Lotto jackpot worth $5,511,009 was a jolt he didn’t mind experiencing.
Connecticut’s Newest Millionaires, Jim and Jean Seitz, today claimed the Classic Lotto jackpot they won, at Connecticut Lottery headquarters in New Britain. Their ticket was the only one sold statewide that had the jackpot winning combination for that night’s Lotto drawing. It’s a matter of habit for Jim Seitz to stop by the Winsted Road Mobil Station in South Torrington each Tuesday and Friday before the game’s drawing, and then to check the numbers on his ticket in the next day’s news. Jim noticed the first number on his Quick Pick Lotto ticket was a match. The second number matched as well. And, the third. Seeing a fourth number match, Jim was pleased, thinking he’d won a prize of around $40. It was then that he realized that all six numbers on his ticket matched those in the paper, and the jackpot win was his. Jim and Jean relied on the Connecticut Lottery’s web site to check their numbers again, against the results shown there. About a dozen times, Jim joked when asked about verifying the numbers. Searching the site, they located information about steps to take if you’re a winner, which includes encouraging winners to seek professional legal and financial planning advice.
That advice helped the Seitz’s to determine a one-time cash lump sum payment, rather than a 21-year annuity option, would most suit their long-term financial needs and goals. The jackpot’s lump sum value was $3,400,807. Federal and state taxes (25% and 5% respectively) brought the net amount of their prize to $2,380,568. We are pleased that, like the vast majority of our jackpot winners, Jim and Jean have taken a thoughtful approach to planning for their future. We applaud their actions, and wish them all the best as they venture into this new phase of their lives, noted Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the Lottery.

Kent Resident’s Giant Win Feels Twice as Good February 4, 2008 -- When Gilbert Case of Kent arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in New Britain Monday morning, he was in good spirits; Case came to claim the Cash5 $100,000 top prize from the Sunday, February 3 drawing. The lottery staff noted that Case looked familiar. That’s when Case confirmed that he had won $100,000 once before playing Cash5 in February 2006. I can’t believe I did it again, Case told lottery officials. I didn’t see the drawing last night, said Case. This morning, Case’s girlfriend handed him the local newspaper where he quickly learned that the Cash5 numbers he selected the day before matched the winning numbers drawn. Last night was a great night, said Case, a big NY Giants fan, but winning Cash5 again was just icing on the cake. The winning Cash5 numbers drawn on February 3, 2008 were 17 18 20 33 35. There were a total of 3,746 winning tickets sold statewide whose values ranged from $2 to $100,000 each. The overall odds of winning the top prize in Cash5 are 1 in 324,632.
Case was all smiles when he accepted a prize check for $70,000 (the prize value after taxes) from lottery officials. I plan on investing the money, or maybe buy a home down south near my family in Virginia, said Case. Case purchased his top prize winning ticket at A.M. Citgo located at 954 Main Street in Winsted the same lottery retailer where he purchased his first Cash5 top prize winning ticket two years ago. A.M. Citgo will receive a $1,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket. In 2007, there were 93 top prize winners in Cash5 with a total of more than $8.7 million in top prizes paid.
January 17, 2008 Frank Antancio of Shelton is beginning his new year with a bounce in his step and $20,000 in his pocket after winning the 11th of 54 top prizes in the CT Lottery scratch game 20X The Cash, 2nd Edition. While on his way to work Thursday morning, Antancio stopped at Wooster Street Market in Shelton to pick up coffee and donuts for his co-workers; while there, he purchased a scratch ticket. I don’t play very often, just once in awhile, said Antancio. The first ticket was a winner…so was the second, as well as the third. Antancio decided to make one final purchase. That’s when I picked the 20X The Cash, said Antancio of his $20 ticket selection. When Antancio scratched the latex off the surface of the ticket, he thought he had a $1,000 winner. Antancio gave the ticket to the lottery agent to be scanned and verified. He told me that I didn’t win $1,000, instead I won 20 times the prize; I won $20,000, Antancio said with a big grin. I’ve never won a prize this big, said Antancio.
Later that day, Antancio arrived at Lottery headquarters in New Britain to accept a check for $14,006 (the prize value after taxes). Antancio did not hesitate to answer when asked of his plans for the prize money. My daughter just graduated from college, so I’m giving half of the prize to her, he said. For selling Antancio’s top prize winning ticket, Wooster Street Market, located at 70 Wooster Street in Shelton, will receive a $200 bonus check from the CT Lottery. There are 44 more top prizes available in the game 20X The Cash, 2nd Edition. The overall chance to win a prize is 1 in 4.03.
