But after Colorado Lottery officials surprised him with news that he won the $250,000 Crossword Doubler Second-Chance Drawing, the biggest problem Warren had to address was how to spend his quarter-of-a million dollar windfall. "I’m going to pay off cars and cards and stimulate the economy," joked a beaming Warren, who was shocked when Lottery officials (accompanied by his wife, mother-in-law and granddaughter) showed up at his office with a ceremonial $250,000 check. Warren won the top prize in the drawing after entering lots of non-winning $250,000 Crossword Doubler $10 Scratch tickets. His name was chosen from 74,000 entries. A frequent Scratch player, Warren had never won any substantial prizes before the drawing. The money, however, arrives in the nick of time for the Warren family.
"I just lost my job, so this is like, 'Oh My God,'" added Warren’s wife Linda, who explained that the couple had just tried to trade in her van because they were worried about how to make the monthly payments. "We were just devastated for the last two weeks." In addition to paying off bills, Warren plans to set up college funds for his two adopted children, ages nine and 11. Warren also plans to share the wealth with his three step-children. "This is going to change my life quite a bit," he said. DENVER, Co., One lucky Lotto winner is ringing in the new year $3.6 million richer. Just one ticket matched all six numbers in the Colorado Lotto drawing held Jan. 5. The winning numbers were: 13, 14, 17, 20, 31 and 33. Saturday’s jackpot winner has 180 days to claim the top prize. The cash value of the ticket is $1.8 million. The Jan. 5 Lotto drawing was lucky for many players. Ten of the tickets matched five numbers, earning an $837 prize. Another 696 matched four numbers to win $45. The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the King Soopers located at 12959 S. Parker Road in Parker. The store will receive $5,000 for selling the lucky ticket.
DENVER - Christmas came early this year for Marvin Miner, a vending machine service technician, who won $20,000 in the Cash 5 drawing December 13th. Miner usually checks his ticket every morning before work while enjoying a cup of coffee. He was in such disbelief when he discovered he won, that he had to wake up his wife to verify the numbers. I said, ‘You’ve got to get up and see this. You’re not going to believe it,’s recounted Miner. And she said, ‘What? Did we get two feet of snow?’

PUEBLO A week ago, Gloria Aguda was worried about losing her home to foreclosure and too financially strapped to afford a trip to the doctor. I was very depressed and asking God to help me, said Aguda, a 50-year-old Fountain resident. Aguda’s prayers were answered November 21, when she matched all six numbers in the Lotto drawing and won the $9 million jackpot.
My heart was pounding so bad, said Aguda, after a friend checked her ticket and informed her that she had the winning numbers. The money is a well-needed windfall for Aguda, a single mother of two sons, who worked two jobs to support her children. Left jobless by a layoff two years ago, Aguda has been studying to become a medical assistant. But her school work required so much time, she was only able to work one day a week making it increasingly difficult to help pay the mortgage on the home she shares with her now grown sons.
My kids have worked so hard to save the house, said a tearful Aguda, who moved to the U.S. from the Philippines as a teenager. Aguda said she will pay off the mortgage on her home and other bills with the cash lump sum of $4.5 million. She also plans to provide financial support for her extended family, including a brother still living in the Philippines, who is partially blind and needs medical care. In fact, Aguda hopes to travel to Honolulu, where she lived before moving to Colorado in 1988, to surprise family. The money will also allow Aguda’s sons to attend college and pay off school loans.
Aguda, however, may take a break from school to sort out her financial future.
